Workshops
Connecting Students to the Skilled Trades
PMSMCA helps coordinate workshops with industry partners such as Local 601 Steamfitters, Local 75 Plumbers, SMART Local 18 Sheet Metal training schools, and WRTP Big Step to come to SE WI high schools and middle schools. In addition, the association has a group of professionals in the trades that have stepped up to volunteer their time to invest in the next generation workforce. Our purpose is to provide exposure of the mechanical career pathways and meaningful experiences in student classrooms. Many workshops consist of a short presentation followed by a hands on activity.
If you’re a school looking to build a partnership or a contractor member wanting to get involved, please reach out to jill→pmsmca.com
Job/Career Fairs
Career Fairs, Events, and Workforce Outreach.
If your school is hosting an upcoming job/career fairs, trades day, and/or Junior Achievement event, please email all details and any flyers to tara→pmsmca.com.
PMSMCA’s workforce development team will strive to make as many events throughout each calendar year. With enough notice, we will include any event details or flyers in the associations monthly Nuts & Bolts e-newsletter to members.
School Opportunities
Field Trips:
If you’re district is interested in scheduling a school field trip to one of PMSMCA’s contractor member shops or a job site visit please reach out to tara→pmsmca.com. School field trips may include shop tours, panel discussions and Q/A with industry professionals, lunch/snacks for students, demonstrations, and hands-on activities. Transportation and permission slips must be arranged by the district.
School Visits:
PMSMCA’s Workforce Development staff and committee want to visit your school. Let’s connect, listen, and learn from one another. Share with us what your district is doing now, where it’s headed, and how can our industry provide support. This visit is usually 1-1.5 hours and includes a tour of any CTE spaces, opportunity to connect with any available instructors, and meeting with students is optional. PMSMCA will provide updates on any opportunities currently available or in the pipeline for students to get involved and gain experience.
Contact tara→pmsmca.com to schedule.
