EPA Final Ruling on Lead: Renovation, Repair & Painting Programs
Recently the EPA issued a final ruling on Lead: Renovations, Repair & Painting Programs.  The new rule will require contractors to be trained to follow simple but effective lead-safe work practices to protect children and pregnant women from dangerous levels of lead.  Requirements will include practices such as: posting warning signs, restirct occupants from work araeas, prevent dust and debris from spreading, conduct a thorough cleanup, and verify that the cleanup was effective.

Right to Cure Law

Right to Cure requires that before any dwelling construction begins, consumers must be provided with the brochure prepared by the WI Department of Commerce. The Right to Cure Law provides the steps and timetables to be followed in resolving any claims of dwelling construction defects by consumers against contractors or suppliers. Claims must be pursued through the Right to Cure Law process before arbitration or before legal action.

2006 SMACNA National Convention
Mamayek accepts award at SMACNA Convention

A delegation of fourteen contractors and spouses from Wisconsin attended the SMACNA National Convention in Scottsdale, AZ in October 2006.  One of those contractors, Mike Mamayek (Illingworth Corp), received first place in the annual safety award program in the category of 300,000-400,000 man-hours. 

Martin Peterson Company of Kenosha took third place in the 400,000-500,000 man-hour category.

 

Susan Karr inducted into the SMACNA College of Fellows
